Sometimes those automated cameras that are set up deep inside parks show some interesting visitors. At the Modini Ingalls Ecological Preserve and Mayacamas Mountains Sanctuary, the 1,750-acre preserve northeast of Healdsburg, an Audubon Canyon Ranch motion-sensor camera captured this shot of a black bear at 8 p.m. on Aug. 31.
The land, which has been owned by the Modini and Ingalls families for more than a century and was donated to the Audubon group, will never be developed and is intended to be a permanent sanctuary for native plants and wildlife. In addition to bears, mountain lions and bobcats and golden eagles are also frequently spotted there.

This bear looks pretty happy to have a safe home.

The obvious question is, did he use the approved sanitary facilities or did he just ____ in the woods?
After all, he is a bear.
Maybe we can answer that age-old mystery at last.

Black Bear are doing real well throughout north-eastern Sonoma County. That’s good, but expect some problems.
